Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's working visit to Prague

On October 6, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan arrived in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, on a working visit. The Prime Minister is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan, Vice-President of the National Assembly Ruben Rubinyan and other officials.

The Prime Minister will participate in the summit of the European Political Community today.

Within the framework of the visit, a four-sided meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Council President Charles Michel and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will take place in Prague.

On the same day, a meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan participated in the European Political Community Summit in Prague. The event was attended by leaders of more than four dozen states: EU member states as well as EU partner countries.

The summit was held in the Old Castle of Prague. The leaders of the participating countries were welcomed by the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala. After the plenary session, a joint photo-taking ceremony of the participants of the summit took place.

Within the framework of the event, Prime Minister Pashinyan also participated in the round-table discussion on the topic of security.

The meeting of the Prime Ministers of Armenia and Greece, Nikol Pashinyan and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, took place within the framework of the European Political Community Summit held in Prague.

At the meeting, the interlocutors discussed a number of issues on the agenda of relations between Armenia and Greece.

The sides referred to the consequences of the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia. Nikol Pashinyan highlighted the international community's, including Greece's, direct response to Azerbaijan's actions and demands to eliminate the consequences of the aggression.

Prime Minister Pashinyan and Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized the need for close bilateral cooperation in overcoming challenges. Armenia-Greece-Cyprus trilateral cooperation was also highlighted.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a brief meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz within the framework of the European Political Community Summit held in Prague.

The interlocutors referred to issues related to the development of Armenian-German relations.

The Prime Minister presented details about the processes taking place in the South Caucasus, referred to the consequences of the Azerbaijani aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia. Nikol Pashinyan attached importance to the adequate response of the international community.

In the context of preventing new aggressions, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of introducing international mechanisms for monitoring and controlling the border situation.

The meeting of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan took place in Prague.

In the context of Armenia-Turkey rapproachment, direct contacts and high-level meetings were emphasized by both sides.

Nikol Pashinyan and Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the process of normalization of Armenia-Turkey relations and possible further steps in that direction.

The need for the speedy implementation of the agreements reached as a result of the discussions of the special representatives of the two countries was emphasized. In particular, it refers to the opening of the land border for citizens of third countries, the implementation of direct air cargo transportation between Armenia and Turkey.

The sides exchanged thoughts on regional processes.

The President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia met in Prague on 6 October 2022 in the margins of the first European Political Community at the invitation of the President of the French Republic and the President of the European Council.

Armenia and Azerbaijan confirmed their commitment to the Charter of the United Nations and the Alma Ata 1991 Declaration through which both recognize each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. They confirmed it would be a basis for the work of the border delimitation commissions and that the next meeting of the border commissions would take place in Brussels by the end of October.

There was an agreement by Armenia to facilitate a civilian EU mission alongside the border with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan agreed to cooperate with this mission as far as it is concerned. The mission will start in October for a maximum of two months. The aim of this mission is to build confidence and, through its reports, to contribute to the border commissions.
