PM receives CoE Commissioner for Human Rights

Today, Prime Minister NIkol Pashinyan received CoE Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović.

Congratulating Dunja Mijatović on assuming the responsible position of CoE Commissioner for Human Rights, the Premier expressed readiness for effective cooperation. With reference to recent political developments in Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan noted that the Armenian society is going through important transformations. According to the Prime Minister, the reforms launched by the government following the velvet revolution are aimed at reaching a new level in the protection of human rights, developing civil society and democracy, ensuring enhanced participation of citizens in decision making, as well as recording progress in the fight against corruption.

Prime Minister Pashinyan highlighted the cooperation with the office of CoE Commissioner for Human Rights in this process. Thankful for the reception, Dunja Mijatović said she had closely followed the developments in Armenia and praised the peaceful nature of the protests.

Views were exchanged on women’s participation in Armenia’s social-political life. The Prime Minister pointed out that women have always played and will continue to play an important role in democratic processes in Armenia. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that the Government prioritizes and provides incentives for women’s proactive involvement in decision making and public governance.

The parties discussed a number of issues related to the development of civil society, prevention of family violence, protection of rights of different social groups, etc.
