Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received International Monetary Fund Regional Director for Middle East and Central Asia Jihad Azour. IMF Resident Representative in Armenia Yulia Ustyugova was in attendance.
Noting that Armenia and the IMF are cooperating effectively, the Premier said his government eager to expand the scope of interaction, considering Armenia’s ambitious multi-vector development agenda. In this regard, the head of the Armenian government highlighted the role of international partners, including the IMF.
Highly appreciative of the ongoing cooperation with the Government of Armenia, the IMF Regional Director underscored that Armenia is a reliable partner for the Fund. Jihad Azour assured of the Fund’s willingness to back the Government of Armenia in a bid to bring the reform process to successful completion.
Speaking about Armenia’s economic priorities, Nikol Pashinyan said the Government’s ultimate goal is to build an export-oriented and technology-based economy. At the guest’s request, Nikol Pashinyan touched upon the steps and measures aimed at implementing structural changes in the economy, fighting corruption, reforming the judiciary and the public administration system, improving the investment environment, developing and modernizing infrastructure, etc. Jihad Azour stressed that the IMF supports the Government’s economic reform efforts.
Taking the opportunity, the Armenian Prime Minister and the IMF Regional Director exchanged views on long-term development strategies.
