Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Armenia Alexander Konyuk.
Congratulating the Ambassador on his appointment, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that his activities will further strengthen the Armenian-Belarusian relations. Nikol Pashinyan noted that Armenia attaches importance to the development of political and economic cooperation with Belarus in both bilateral and multilateral formats, and is interested in implementing mutually advantageous programs.
The Prime Minister referred to the situation following the Artsakh war, stressing in this regard the importance of a balanced position of Belarus. Nikol Pashinyan noted that the most important priority for the Armenian side is the return of prisoners of war, as well as the preservation of the Armenian cultural and religious heritage in the territories that came under Azerbaijan’s control. He advised that sustained efforts are being made in this direction.
Alexander Konyuk noted that Armenia and Belarus, the Armenian and Belarusian peoples have much in common with close ties of cooperation and a high-level of political dialogue. He assured that during his tenure he will make every effort to further deepen the partnership. The Ambassador of Belarus emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability and noted that Belarus is ready to support efforts in this direction.
The parties exchanged views on the intensification of economic ties between the two states, the prospects for joint initiatives, stressing that there is great potential available in this respect. Prime Minister Pashinyan noted the importance of the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and close parliamentary cooperation.
The interlocutors also touched on the opportunities that the unblocking of economic and transport infrastructure will open up in our region. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of ensuring continuous and uninterrupted operation of the Yerevan-Minsk flight in the context of COVID-19, which was made possible through close cooperation between the two sides.
The Prime Minister asked the Ambassador to convey his greetings to President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko.
