Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today met with Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHP) Chairman Sedrak Achemian.
Nikol Pashinian: Mr. Achemian, I am happy to see you. First of all, let me thank you for accepting my invitation. The Social Democrat Hunchakian Party is one of our traditional political parties, which is also largely influential in the Armenian Diaspora. Contacts like this are important, since we can thereby hear the voice of a portion of Diaspora-based Armenians, and vice versa.
I have taken note of your assessment of the snap elections, and it is my pleasure to note that our opinions coincide as a matter of fact. We can state that Armenia is irreversibly moving along the path of democracy, which creates a new field and new opportunities for political activity. I am pleased to see that this is noticeable for you. You are welcome.
Sedrak Achemian: Thank you for the meeting. First of all, I would like to compliment our people for guiding the polls in the right direction with their thoughts. And we are glad to see you again as Prime Minister. There are many difficulties indeed, and realizing all this, we as a party are prepared to cooperate around the statehood with the Government of Armenia and with you in particular. This is our decision as we can see high spirits in both the Diaspora and Armenia. We are encouraged to see the policy of a brighter future.
I remember very well the slogan “There is a future” that you made public ahead of the snap elections. Indeed, we are convinced that there is a future, too. We need cooperation and consolidation to build the future. Proposals for the development of cooperation and meetings between the Diaspora and the Motherland were long ago in the light of both our party and common thoughts. We look forward to continued cooperation in a bid to advance the idea of a nationwide body.
Our party believes that it is generally useful for us to show, with high praise, that there is a future. The slogan “There is a future” has become a symbol for me: I often use it even in everyday life, because the future is, in general, hope against emigration, etc. There are many other phenomena that affect our people. We need hope to solve them. Hope is the future itself. That is our conviction.
The interlocutors discussed issues related to the strengthening of Diaspora-Homeland linkages, mobilizing potentialities and opportunities nationwide, as well as prospects for cooperation.
