Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received the Special Envoy of Canada to the European Union and Europe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to the Federal Republic of Germany Stéphane Dion.
The Prime Minister noted that the visit of the Canadian Special Envoy to the EU and Europe to our country is a good opportunity to discuss the agenda of the Armenian-Canadian cooperation and highlighted the fact that Canada shares the vision of reforms in Armenia. "Armenia is committed to its democratic agenda, it is grateful to Canada, to the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau for supporting our democracy," the PM said. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that despite the difficulties created after the war of 2020, the Armenian Government is steadily moving forward on the path of strengthening democratic institutions, as evidenced by the assessments of reputable international organizations.
Stéphane Dion conveyed the warm greetings of the Prime Minister of Canada to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, emphasizing that he has visited our country to discuss the prospects of the Armenia-Canada strategic dialogue. "Canada is a strong supporter of the democratic agenda of Armenia, and is interested in the implementation of joint programs in Armenia," said the Canadian Special Envoy to the EU and Europe.
The interlocutors discussed issues related to the strengthening of democracy in Armenia and the expansion of the Armenian-Canadian partnership in that context. The Prime Minister suggested that the Canadian side consider the possibilities of implementing joint programs in Armenia in the fields of road construction, reservoir construction, renewable energy, green economy, as well as educational infrastructure. During the meeting the sides exchanged views on international and regional security issues. The Prime Minister presented Armenia's positions on the delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the opening of regional communication routes, as well as referred to the agreements reached as a result of meetings mediated by international partners. Nikol Pashinyan noted that Armenia attaches importance to peace, stability in the region, and expects the support of international partners in that process.
The parties stressed the importance of democratic institutions in handling security challenges. Nikol Pashinyan noted that Armenia is ready to work actively with Canada on joint political, economic, cultural and humanitarian agenda and programs.
PM Pashinyan asked Stéphane Dion to convey his greetings and best wishes to his Canadian counterpart, the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
