Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus Constantinos Kombos, who is on an official visit to Armenia.
The Prime Minister welcomed the visit of the Cypriot Foreign Minister and the delegation led by him to Armenia and noted. "I am glad that certain new dynamics are observed in our relations. Our relations have always been warm, but despite this, we must make continuous progress. We have quite a large agenda of cooperation in various fields. We have a dialogue in the fields of security and foreign policy. I would like to draw our attention to the economic agenda, which, in my opinion, is very important in order to further strengthen relations. In this regard, I also attach great importance to the trilateral format, in which Greece also participates. I hope that we will organize a meeting this summer, which, in my opinion, is very important. Welcome, I am glad to see you. I would like to hear your impressions, your comments on regional and international developments, and of course also on our bilateral agenda."
Constantinos Kombos thanked for the warm reception and added: "It is a great honor for me to be here. We have already discussed many of the elements you mentioned, particularly how to deepen our relationship. I would like to inform you that for this purpose we will open an embassy in Yerevan within a year. Also, we discussed the issue of the business forum with my colleague, trying to record more concrete results, including those areas where we already have good cooperation: defense, tourism, education, we will pay attention to these areas as well. I believe our relations are extremely important for historical reasons, but there are also enough prospects to improve them further by recording economic results. As for the trilateral format, we are committed to it. This format is equally important to everyone, you can be sure that we attach the greatest value to our relationship. We appreciate your traditional principled position on Cyprus question”.
In order to strengthen diplomatic relations, the interlocutors emphasized opening of diplomatic missions in the capitals of one another.
At the same time, the parties referred to the development of further cooperation between Armenia and the European Union, exchanged thoughts on the processes taking place in the South Caucasus region, steps to ensure regional peace and stability. In this context, the Prime Minister highlighted the activities of the EU civil mission in Armenia.
