The implementation process of 2023-2026 Action Plan of the Food Security System Development Strategy was discussed under the leadership of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

It was reported that the 2023-2026 Action Plan includes 50 measures related to the availability, accessibility, use of food, sustainability of supply, and the solution of existing problems. Accordingly, the target indicators are: ensuring access to the minimum expenditure basket for all population groups, the availability of material reserve resources, ensuring accessibility, self-sufficiency, as well as the indexed targets for natural resources and resilience.

It was noted that work is being carried out with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization aimed at developing the minimum expenditure basket by age group, taking into account the consumption norms and energy values applied in international practice.

Awareness-raising activities have been carried out in secondary schools and higher educational institutions on the principles of a balanced diet and choosing safe food. Within the framework of the “Hot Food” program, since 2023, about 105,259 primary school students and 4,114 preschool students in 1,060 secondary schools in 10 regions of the Republic of Armenia receive hot food.

It was noted that state support is provided for the period until 2027 to large investment programs within the framework of food availability and sustainability.

During the discussion, the current problems in the field of food security and possible steps to solve them were addressed.

In the context of ensuring material reserve resources, Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized the importance of encouraging local production, reviewing government support programs and implementing relevant programs by the Government in this direction. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that it is necessary to work towards the formation of alternatives to products included in the list of material reserves, adding that it is necessary to act as flexibly as possible in the field of food security.
