Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended the presentation of the "World Trade Center Yerevan" (WTC Yerevan) project.
The Prime Minister delivered a speech, also congratulating those present on the occasion of Yerevan’s 2808th anniversary: "Of course, this occasion is marked by the practical launch of this project—the World Trade Center building. Today, we are effectively talking about the tallest building in Yerevan's history and are launching its creation. In this regard, this is a very important and significant event in the 2,808-year history of Yerevan."
Nikol Pashinyan expressed hope that the building resulting from this architectural project will remain relevant for Yerevan and contribute to shaping the city's identity. "Such buildings, structures, and projects are not realized merely for a span of one to five decades; they are projects designed from the outset to span centuries of history. This is a highly significant symbol, underscoring the need for us—while taking historical context into account—to open up broad, long-term horizons," Prime Minister Pashinyan said. He added that the core of political and state ideology lies in planning with a century-long perspective, and that the concept and ideology of Armenia’s enduring statehood are founded upon this very principle.
According to the Prime Minister, such investment projects, spanning a century-long horizon, are precisely about this. "We already have such projects. I have had occasion to mention that when we were negotiating the TRIPP project or outlining its scope, there was much discussion about how, for 50 years and then another 50, someone would hold a stake in the Republic of Armenia. I drew the attention of our partners and the public to the fact that we need to view this from a different perspective: essentially, the world's leading superpower is entering into an agreement with the Republic of Armenia for a period of 90 years or more. Never in our thousand-year history have we faced a 90-year horizon," Nikol Pashinyan noted.
The Prime Minister also emphasized that the World Trade Center is a global brand that is thus establishing a presence in Armenia. Once again extending congratulations on the occasion of Yerevan’s 2808th anniversary and the launch of the project, Nikol Pashinyan noted: "For me, this is a story about the fact that Yerevan has 2808 years not only behind it but also ahead of it—an occasion on which I congratulate us all."
During the event, the vision and development concept for WTC Yerevan, a multifunctional project of international significance, were presented. The world-renowned architectural firm Foster+Partners presented details regarding the design of the building. The planned multifunctional complex at 22 Saryan Street will integrate retail and office spaces, a hotel, landscaped gardens, leisure areas, and brand-name stores, as well as modern infrastructure for hosting exhibitions and events. It was highlighted that the dismantling of the existing structures at 22 Saryan Street has commenced and is proceeding successfully.
A management agreement with Hyatt Hotels Corporation was signed during the event. A memorandum of cooperation has also been signed with the United Kingdom’s state export credit agency (UK Export Finance) to partially fund the WTC project.
A 2023 Government of Armenia decision approved the urban development project for the construction of the World Trade Center (WTC). The shareholders of WTC Yerevan are the Republic of Armenia (19%), Renshin LLC (56%), and Haypost CJSC (25%). It is the largest public-private partnership project in Armenia, with a total investment of $470 million. The WTC serves as a link between Armenian businesses and international companies. It aims to position Armenia as a regional business hub and foster the development of international trade ties through the World Trade Centers Association network.
