Prime Minister Pashinyan sends congratulatory message to European Council President
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sent a congratulatory message to A António Costa on his election as President of the European Council. The message reads:
“Please accept my warmest congratulations and best wishes on your election as President of the European Council.
I am pleased to note that the scope of Armenia-EU relations has significantly expanded in recent years, encompassing almost all areas of partnership.
Armenia and the European Union are currently actively negotiating a new Partnership Agenda, which reflects the current state of Armenia-EU relations and outlines the upcoming actions. Once this process is successfully concluded and new, ambitious priorities for the partnership are agreed upon, our multifaceted cooperation will reach another milestone, bringing Armenia closer to the EU and the wider European community.
I am also pleased to note that thanks to the deployment of the EU Civilian Mission, the security component of our partnership is developing successfully in the border regions with Azerbaijan. It is indeed a deterrent that contributes to security and stability in the South Caucasus. I am hopeful that the mandate of the Mission will be extended, and I count on the support of our EU partners in this regard.
Providing support to Armenia under the European Peace Facility is a remarkable decision made by the European Council with important political implications.
As you know, the visa liberalisation dialogue officially launched on 9 September 2024, and we see it as a confirmation of the ongoing democratic reforms in Armenia and an impetus for further intensification of people-to-people contacts, in line with the commitments undertaken under the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.
I look forward to working closely with you to advance the Armenia-EU partnership agenda.”
