PM receives Nobel Prize winner in Physiology and Medicine Harald zur Hausen

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today received Harald zur Hausen who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 2008.
Greeting the renowned scientist, the Prime Minister highly appreciated his contribution to the development of healthcare in the world. Nikol Pashinyan said the Government of the Republic of Armenia highlights the need for safe and effective vaccination to prevent infectious diseases among the population. The Premier noted that Mr. Hausen’s long experience and impressive achievements in this area will be useful in terms of raising awareness in our society.
Harald zur Hausen said he was happy to pay a first-ever visit to our country, meet the Prime Minister of Armenia, and that he was deeply impressed by the Armenians’ warm hospitality. Speaking of health-related challenges, he noted that vaccination is one of the best solutions to prevent contagious diseases, and that the public’s awareness is very important.

Harald zur Hausen received the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 2008 for his work on papillomaviruses. He is in Armenia as part of the event Nobel Days in Yerevan, organized by the State Medical University of Yerevan.
