The Prime Ministers of Armenia and Georgia, Nikol Pashinyan and Irakli Kobakhidze, made statements following the results of the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
In his speech, Prime Minister Pashinyan, in particular, noted:
“Honorable Prime Minister Kobakhidze,
Esteemed members of the governments of Armenia and Georgia,
Ladies and gentlemen,
I am glad to once again host the Prime Minister of Georgia, my friend Irakli Kobakhidze, and the esteemed colleagues of the Government of Georgia in Yerevan. The regular mutual visits of high-ranking representatives of Armenia and Georgia, the annual regular sessions of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation are evidence of the friendship of our countries, the growth of the existing scope of cooperation, and the rich agenda we have jointly formed.
The establishment of a strategic partnership between our countries last year has given a new impetus to the interstate relations between Armenia and Georgia. I am confident that we will continue to deepen mutually beneficial and multi-sectoral cooperation with the joint efforts of our governments and without any restrictions.
Our committee today thoroughly discussed the current programs and new prospects for cooperation between Armenia and Georgia in the economy, transport, communications, energy, tourism, agriculture, environment, healthcare, culture, education, science and a number of other areas.
I must state that the friendly and warm attitude of our fraternal countries is anchored in very concrete and solid realities. Armenia and Georgia mutually and unequivocally respect each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Our countries treat the positions and priorities of strategic partners with respect and care, striving not only not to harm, but also to provide maximum support for the advancement of each other's interests. It is no less important that the societies of our countries share numerous value systems, cultural and even everyday traditions, which make the friendship of our countries unbreakable.
An important component of our rich dialogue is economic cooperation and strengthening the interdependence of the two countries, including through the introduction of mutually necessary facilitations. I informed our Georgian partners that Armenia is interested in the unblocking and full resumption of the economic infrastructure of the region, which should take place within the framework of full respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders of all countries. In this context, I emphasized the importance of bringing to life the “Crossroads of Peace” project of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, which promises very concrete and tangible prospects for Armenia, Georgia and other countries of our shared region.
I also emphasized the importance of ensuring inclusiveness in regional and extra-regional projects. In this context, we highlight Armenia’s interest and readiness to join the Black Sea Submarine Cable project.
Dear colleagues,
Today, naturally, we have not bypassed the discussions on the ongoing processes aimed at establishing and strengthening peace and stability in our region. I presented to my partner the developments in the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, emphasizing that Armenia has presented very specific proposals and solutions on all issues of mutual concern, and is waiting for Azerbaijan's constructive response. I reaffirm that the Government of Armenia is determined to advance the peace agenda and will continue to make active efforts in that direction. I also presented to my partner the latest developments in the border demarcation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, informing that an agreement has been reached between the two countries to start the next stage of the border demarcation process in the immediate vicinity of the Armenia-Georgia-Azerbaijan interstate border crossing point.
During today's discussions with the Prime Minister of Georgia, we also talked about activating the border demarcation process between Armenia and Georgia and agreed that we will make efforts in that direction.
In conclusion, I must emphasize that Armenia and Georgia have formed an agenda for expanding and developing further cooperation, and in the near future we will spare no effort to expand and strengthen our cooperation aimed at bilateral and regional prosperity.
Now, I would like to give the floor to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze."
In turn, Irakli Kobakhidze noted:
"It is a great pleasure and honor for me to arrive in Armenia, this is my second visit to Yerevan. Such a frequency means that Georgia has a great interest in expanding and deepening relations with Armenia.
I would like to express my warm gratitude to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Pashinyan, and our Armenian friends for the warm welcome. And I would like to note once again that our countries are connected by long-standing ties of friendship and partnership. This has developed into a strategic partnership between our two countries. This partnership is extremely important for the entire region, for security, prosperity and sustainable development.
Today, as you know, we held the 14th session of the Armenian-Georgian Economic Cooperation Commission. It was effective, fruitful, and I would like to thank the Armenian side for receiving the Georgian delegation at a high level. I would like to specially note that the regular holding of such sessions is extremely important for the further expansion of our cooperation and achieving our strategic goals.
There are special relations between our countries, and these relations are not explained only by geography, but I would like to emphasize, repeat an idea that I expressed during the session: Our partnership is deeply rooted in historical circumstances, and our friendship has a history of centuries. And the centuries-old friendship between the peoples of Armenia and Georgia is built and anchored on this. And our mutual respect is the testament to this, both between peoples and governments.
Today we had a very interesting private conversation with Mr. Pashinyan, we talked about bilateral cooperation, interaction in multilateral arenas. We exchanged ideas about the processes that are developing both in the global and regional arenas. Of course, the world is full of challenges, and taking them into account is extremely important, and this further emphasizes the importance of close cooperation. We can together take care of issues of protecting our common interests, protecting national interests. The developments between our countries are also a harbinger of global developments, and our cooperation is of vital importance in this sense.
We once again express our readiness to contribute to stability and peace in this region, which is a prerequisite for the prosperity, peace and stability of the region. We are ready to invest our efforts in the future as well. It is very important that we show respect for each other's strategic interests, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. And taking this opportunity, I would like to thank our Armenian friends for protecting our territorial integrity and sovereignty at the highest level.
Our bilateral economic and trade relations are also very important. You know that the Economic Commission places the main emphasis on cooperation in the economic sphere. We are very satisfied with the positive trends in this area. The economic and trade sectors also have development potential and we will try to make the best use of this unused potential. This was also discussed at the meeting of our commission.
And finally, I would like to emphasize that our partnership and friendship are on very solid foundations. We express our readiness to make even more efforts for the benefit of further strengthening of these relations, for the benefit of our countries and nations.
And again, I would like to cordially invite Prime Minister Pashinyan to our country. It will be a great pleasure and a great honor to receive you there.
Thank you for the warm welcome."
