Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended the opening ceremony of the newly built primary school No. 2 in Abovyan.
The Prime Minister toured the school and got acquainted with the work carried out and the conditions created. The total cost of the project amounted to more than 4 billion AMD. It was implemented with the co-financing of the Government under the Asian Development Bank’s Seismic Safety Improvement Program. As a result of the work carried out, the Abovyan community has a new school with a design capacity of 1,000 students.
Nikol Pashinyan congratulated those present on the construction of the school and noted: "It is truly an occasion for congratulations, and I think it is now obvious that not only has a school been built, but also an atmosphere has been formed, which, in my opinion, should change a lot for the children and the future of the country. Children who study in such an environment, teachers who teach in such an environment, parents who deal with such an environment every day should receive certain boosts from this environment, which was built through the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, but at the expense of the taxes paid by the taxpayers of the Republic of Armenia."
In this regard, Nikol Pashinyan once again expressed his gratitude to the citizens working in the Republic of Armenia, creating results, and paying taxes prescribed by law, and noted that such programs show what their work is transformed into. The Prime Minister presented to the children the Government's message on creating such an environment at school: all the skills necessary to live well, have a good job, earn well, and enjoy life are being created. According to the Prime Minister, children will also create maximum results for themselves, their families, and the state through their chosen profession and occupation. "I want this school to truly endow you with such abilities that you will enjoy your work, choose a profession that you love, have the necessary professional skills to ensure your well-being, and your earnings, environment, city, settlement, and state should be such that they give you the opportunity to enjoy life and be happy, create that opportunity. This is our strategic goal," the Prime Minister said.
Nikol Pashinyan also thanked the teachers who were able to continue their activities in unfavorable conditions, moreover, 30% of them passed voluntary certification, whose example will encourage other teachers. In this context, Nikol Pashinyan noted that it’s known that the voluntary certification system is not perfect and assured that necessary steps are being taken to improve it. The Prime Minister emphasized that this method of increasing teachers' salaries through voluntary certification was also formed as a result of communication with teachers. Nikol Pashinyan reminded that the government's decision of 2019, by which the salaries of all teachers were increased by 10% without any additional conditions, was considered unfair by many teachers.
Nikol Pashinyan also thanked the construction organizations and emphasized the need and importance of ensuring the quality of the work. The Prime Minister noted that every dram paid by the people should be spent as efficiently as possible and noted with satisfaction that the change in the quality of construction work is obvious, although there is still a way to go to achieve perfection. The Prime Minister also thanked the Asian Development Bank for financing the project.
